Why does Hilo Core require a membership?
Hilo Core is designed as a complete blood pressure monitoring system, combining the Hilo Band, Hilo Cuff, and the Hilo Core App with secure data processing and ongoing software improvements.
To use the system, an active Hilo Core Subscription is required.
Unlike traditional blood pressure monitors that only provide individual readings, Hilo is designed to help you track your blood pressure continuously and understand long-term patterns in your cardiovascular health.
Your subscription supports the digital services that make this possible, including:
Secure processing and storage of your health data
Personalized insights and long-term trend analysis
Advanced metrics such as Time in Target Range
Doctor-ready health reports
Integration with health platforms like Apple Health or Health Connect
Continuous app improvements and new features
What happens if I cancel my subscription?
An active subscription is required to use your Hilo Band and access blood pressure data. If you cancel:
You will have 30 days of limited access (last 24 hours of data only).
After 30 days, new blood pressure measurements and insights will no longer be available.
Your Hilo Band remains yours to keep.
Your historical data remains securely stored.
You can keep the cuff and continue to use it for one-off readings.
You can reactivate your membership at any time to resume continuous monitoring and regain full access.
How does Hilo Core work?
Hilo Core is a subscription-based wellness system designed to help you understand how your daily habits relate to your blood pressure patterns over time.
The Hilo Core experience combines three connected components:
1. Hilo Band (wellness layer)
The Hilo Band is a wearable device that uses optical sensors on your wrist to collect physiological signals while you are still and at rest. These signals help build insight into longer-term blood pressure patterns and trends over time rather than isolated point-in-time measurements. The band is designed for everyday wear, including during sleep, and continuously collects data in the background to help you better understand how your routines, sleep, and daily habits relate to your patterns over time.
2. Hilo Cuff (reference measurement layer)
The Hilo Cuff is an FDA-cleared blood pressure monitor that provides exact reference blood pressure measurements using an upper-arm cuff. The cuff is used:
During the calibration process
Every 30 days to maintain an accurate baseline for the Hilo Band
Anytime you want an on-the-spot, exact blood pressure measurement
Cuff measurements can also be saved, reviewed, and shared with your doctor through the Hilo App.
3. Hilo Core App
The Hilo Core App brings your information together in one place and helps you:
Observe longer-term trends and patterns
See how your patterns relate to sleep, activity, and daily routines
View summaries and averages over time
Access exact cuff measurements separately from band trend information
Generate reports to download or share
Understanding the difference
The Hilo Band and Hilo Cuff work together, but they serve different purposes:
The Hilo Band helps you understand longer-term patterns and changes over time
The Hilo Cuff provides exact reference blood pressure measurements
The app displays both clearly, while keeping wellness trends and cuff measurements separate.
Who is Hilo Core designed for?
Hilo Core is designed for adults who want to better understand how their daily habits relate to their blood pressure patterns over time. It is intended for general wellness use and for people interested in tracking trends and building awareness of their data.
⚠️ Who should not use Hilo Core?
Hilo Core may not be suitable for everyone. You should not use the Hilo Band or Cuff if:
You are pregnant or may be pregnant
You have damaged, irritated, or injured skin where the device would be worn
You have an implanted electronic device (such as a pacemaker or defibrillator)
You have a condition that may affect how signals are detected at the wrist or arm
If you are unsure whether Hilo Core is appropriate for you, consult a healthcare professional.
ℹ️ Important information
Hilo Core is designed for wellness and awareness, not medical use
It does not provide diagnosis, treatment, or clinical monitoring
The cuff provides reference measurements, while the band supports trend awareness over time
How is my blood pressure measured?
Hilo Core combines reference measurements with ongoing trend insights:
A cuff-based monitor is used to take point-in-time reference measurements of your blood pressure.
The Hilo Band collects optical data from your wrist and uses it to provide context and visibility into how your blood pressure patterns evolve over time.
To ensure reliable insights, the system:
Takes readings when you are still and at rest
Uses periodic cuff measurements to anchor and calibrate the system
Rather than focusing on individual readings, Hilo Core is designed to help you:
Observe long-term trends
Understand how patterns change over time
Build awareness of how lifestyle factors may relate to those patterns
What does the Hilo Band record during exercise?
While exercising, the Hilo Band will continue to count your steps, helping you understand how exercise influences your daily blood pressure trends. To ensure consistent blood pressure and heart rate measurements, the Hilo Band uses an accelerometer to gauge movement and will only attempt to take readings when you are still.

Average weekly number of cuff readings according to Hilo survey of 1,337 blood pressure cuff users. For Hilo Core, actual number of measurements displayed per week may vary, as the Hilo Core App will discard readings with insufficient signal quality. Successful readings are often averaged together for easier viewing in the Hilo Core App.
Frequent errors in using BP cuffs can be as a result of body or cuff positioning, activity level before or during measurement, and many other factors. Hilo Core will not display readings when non-optimal conditions are detected, and accuracy has been demonstrated via multiple clinical trials.
Rated IP68 Water proof. The Hilo Band can be worn when dishwashing, splashing, showering or swimming. However, it cannot be used for diving or snorkeling.
In total 4 clinical trials were required during the design, development and validation of Hilo technology.
